I fought the corrosion (and I won)

No matter what you do to your car, it takes longer than usual. I was removing my winter wheels and found them quite stuck to the hub...3 hours and a sledgehammer later they were all off and the summer wheels on. Nothing is as easy as you think it is.

New wheels are Kosei K8Rs, 17x8, wrapped in 225/45-17 Continental ExtremeContact DWs.

Too true. Dws are on my shopping list can you give us some feed back on them after you spent some time with them. Car looks great!

Thanks! So far all I can say is they feel way better than my winters, but I’ll try to remember to write an update after they’ve broken in some.

there is an easy solution , live in an area that doesn’t require snow tyres.

Last fall my summer wheels were so very stuck to the hubs. I unbolted them and then lowered the car just enough to put some pressure on. I would have tried a sledgehammer but it wasn’t at home that day...

Sorry to break it to you, but corrosion always wins. Enjoy your summer wheels though!

Actually at one point I lowered the car to the ground to try that...wheel didn’t move, even after I released the jack. That scared the crap out of me so I jacked it back up before waiting to see what would happen. The one piece of advice I didn’t try was to put in two lug bolts finger tight and drive the car until the wheel starts to wobble.

Where’s the un-star button? ;)

If I lived in an area that didn’t need snow tires, I’d probably live in an area with less rust...and then I’d sell this thing and buy a 2002 or a vintage Celica.

I mean, I won...for now.

Also, anti-seize. Anti-seize is made of miracles and rainbows.

I have the DWS on 2 of my cars and I really like them. They last a really long time and the grip in the dry/wet is awesome.

Yikes, I’ve never had to break out the sledgehammer to remove a wheel, glad you were able to get them off without breaking anything! When you swap back to your winter wheels, a light coat of anti-seize on the hub will help prevent that from happening again next year.

Yup. Anti-seized all the hubs, not doing this again come November. I don’t know why the BMW seems to be so much worse than my Subaru ever was, but the forums all confirm this: the BMW wheels get stuck, and stuck worse than a lot of other makes.

I find that a wheel stuck to the hub a great time to go Clarkson on your vehicle with the no-bounce hammer.

I don’t know if I’d have the courage to do that! My luck would have the bolts shearing off...
